

On April 25, Professor Ip Kuai Peng, Vice Rector of City University of Macau, visited Soochow University. Vice President Zhang Zhengbiao of Soochow University hosted the meeting at the DushuLakeCampus. In attendance were Professor Wu Yongfa, Director of the Joint Laboratory and Dean of the School of Architecture; Professor Zhang Jinping, Dean of the Graduate School; Professor Wu Yao, Deputy Director of the Joint Laboratory and Vice Dean of the School of Architecture; Zhang Xian, Deputy Director of the Human Resources Office; Zi Hong, Deputy Director of the International Office; and Jiang Yu, Vice President of the Institute of Scientific Research.
Vice President Zhang Zhengbiao extended a warm welcome to Vice Rector Ip Kuai Peng on behalf of the university. He introduced the achievements of Soochow University in the construction of “Double First-Class” initiatives and its international development strategy. He also reviewed the cooperation between the two universities in the fields of talent cultivation, scientific innovation, and academic exchange, especially the unique cooperation model formed in the field of cultural heritage conservation in China and Portugal. He expressed his hope that this meeting could further expand the dimensions of cooperation between the two universities.
Professor Wu Yongfa introduced the latest progress in the construction of the China-Portugal Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Cultural Heritage Conservation Science. As the only joint laboratory currently participating from the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan regions, the platform has achieved significant results in cultural dissemination, scientific and technological innovation, industrial agglomeration, and talent attraction. He particularly pointed out that the joint laboratory is about to undergo on-site acceptance by the Ministry of Science and Technology and hopes that City University of Macau can provide strong support in this regard.
Vice Rector Ip Kuai Peng highly praised the cooperation between the two universities and focused on introducing the unique advantages of City University of Macau in the field of Portuguese-speaking countries research. Regarding the acceptance work of the joint laboratory, Vice Rector Ip emphasized that City University of Macau attaches great importance to it and will advance the relevant matters, ensuring full support for the successful completion of the acceptance work. He also extended a sincere invitation to Soochow University to jointly participate in the construction of the Portuguese-speaking Countries Research Institute at City University of Macau, working together to provide a solid intellectual support for the national development and research on Portuguese-speaking countries.
It is worth noting that the two sides have preliminarily reached an intention to establish a joint talent cultivation base in the Hengqin-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone, aiming to create a demonstration highland for cultural heritage protection in the Greater Bay Area through policy connectivity and resource sharing.
