From July 8 to 10, Marcello Pelillo, Professor of the Department of Environmental Science, Information and Statistics of Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Italy, and Zhu Yi, Specialist of the International Office (Suzhou) of Ca' Foscari University of Venice, visited JLBRI for exchange and discussion. The meeting was attended by Professor Wu Yao, Deputy Dean of the Golden Mantis School of Architecture and Deputy Director of the JLBRI, Associate Professor Xia Zhengwei, Director of the Department of Architecture and Head of the Digital Research Center . The meeting was chaired by Huang Yong, associate researcher of the JLBRI.

Professor Marcello Pelillo presented the research direction and results of the Computer Vision and Machine Learning Lab (CVML Lab). He introduced that CVML Lab and Pompeii jointly launched the RePAIR project, applying artificial intelligence and robotics technology to the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage. The project collected and reconstructed damaged frescoes excavated in Pompeii through 3D scanning and modeling, and used robotic arms to repair the fragments. He believes that CVML Lab's research interests coincide with the joint laboratory's focus on cultural heritage digitization, and the two sides can integrate their own disciplinary advantages to promote joint research in cross-cutting fields.

Professor Wu Yao believed that the two universities have a broad and sufficient basis for cooperation, and further cooperation between the two will provide a broader research platform and research vision for teachers and students of both sides. He proposed that the two sides jointly promote the joint training program for master and doctoral students, carry out joint research in cultural heritage conservation science and artificial intelligence, and lead to the application of artificial intelligence technology in the field of cultural heritage restoration and protection.
